    Presentation Description

The Internet & device technology has become a ubiquitous and fully embedded, and therefore often overlooked, part of everyday life. Many people come into therapy stressed, anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed; technology is often a huge part of this equation and it is constantly evolving. Mental wellness practitioners in all stages of their career need a foundation to address the ever-shifting landscape within which we are working to support our clients healing and wellbeing. The modern therapist needs realistic interventions, empowering and collaborative with clients who depend on technology for the maintenance of their social and work lives.

This course will address the impacts of modern technology, in particular the Internet, personal phone and tablet devices, and social media for mental health providers using neuroscience research discussion and experiential learning strategies from ACT. This course also explains how mental health providers can work from a systems perspective to provide effective assessment, treatment, and psychoeducation for individuals who use mobile device technology in their daily lives.

    Program Goals

To demonstrate increased understanding of evidence-based practices regarding the impacts of personal device technology on mental health in regard to screen usage impacts on the brain, emotional cues to prompt tech usage, and building a healthier relationship with technology.

      Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

      1. Describe at least 2 trauma-informed cultural considerations for the intersection of digital technology use with racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds and neurodiverse populations.

      2. Evaluate the impact of devices on increased levels of stress, anxiety, and/or depression.
      3. Assess clients’ current relationship with technology and determine specific areas of improvement.
      4. Describe at least 2 best practices for including mindfulness in interventions addressing tech usage.
      5. Explain and apply research-backed emotional regulation methods to technology use.

          Presentation Description

This presentation walks through the approved updates to Section 6 of the CAMFT Code of Ethics, which addresses Telehealth, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It explains what the changes mean in practice and how they guide therapists in responsibly using digital tools and AI across clinical work, supervision, documentation, practice management, education, and public-facing activities. The presentation also highlights how the revisions ensure that technological innovation does not diminish therapist accountability, reinforce the importance of professional judgment, and establish clear ethical guardrails for competence, informed consent, confidentiality, disclosures, and legal compliance. Collectively, these updates provide a forward-looking yet grounded ethical framework that supports responsible adoption of emerging technologies while safeguarding client welfare and the integrity of the profession.

          Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

          • Explain the purpose and scope of the approved revisions to Section 6 of the CAMFT Code of Ethics related to Telehealth, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence.
          • Identify key ethical responsibilities for marriage and family therapists when using technology and AI, including competence, confidentiality, informed consent, disclosures, and accountability.
          • Understand the ethical risks associated with technology and AI use in therapy, including confidentiality limitations, bias, and overreliance, and how the revised standards address those risks.
          • Recognize the legal and ethical compliance obligations associated with technology-assisted care, including ongoing duties to remain current with applicable laws and regulations.
          • Apply the approved ethical framework to real-world clinical, supervisory, and organizational contexts involving digital tools and AI

          Presentation Description

Leveraging somatic intervention while addressing attachment wounds, ReParentive® Therapy is an intergenerational trauma healing model for clients who grew up in invalidating environments. This includes people with a parent who was not consistently available for multiple possible reasons, and especially because of a cluster B personality disorder such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Learn about the
unique developmental wounding and core beliefs that often result from this history and how to work to transform them.

This interactive and experiential introductory-level workshop will allow participants to:

          • Learn the impact of growing up in an invalidating environment, i.e. with a parent with BPD
          • Learn ReParentive tools to address attachment wounds and negative core beliefs for those raised in an invalidating environment
          • Apply somatic and mindfulness principles for the therapist’s personal nervous system in order to promote co-regulation in clients
          • Learn the theory behind ReParentive® Therapy, including 10 ReParentive Principles

          Program Goals

theory and practice, so that they can bring tools back to their practice immediately.

            Learning Objectives

Children are cute, but the issues you often face in their treatment can be complex. In this three-hour CE course, CAMFT attorney Kristin Roscoe will use the story of 13-year-old “Jack” to guide attendees through common legal and ethical issues a therapist might reasonably encounter when working with a child. From consent to treatment, mandated reporting, writing letters, to court involvement, attendees will learn how to spot areas of liability and best proceed to support the treatment of minors.

                Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

                1. Identify who may consent to the treatment of a minor and understand the particulars of a minor being able to consent to their own treatment.
                2. Distinguish when some common mandated reporting scenarios may be permissive rather than mandatory.
                3. Understand the legal and ethical risks associated with writing letters, particularly when there is court involvement.
                4. Understand the psychotherapist-patient privilege and how best to support minor patients during custody or guardianship legal proceedings.
